How to Create Your Own Chalk Sidewalk Mural
Hello Yoobi friends! My name is Rebecca and I am the author of a kids' activity book, Banish Boredom and a content creator and photographer at Not-So-SAHM. I live in Washington, DC with my two creative kids and we are longtime fans of Yoobi's give-back philosophy and awesome products.
We are all super excited that spring is here because as soon as the weather turns warm, we look to bring our art outside. One of my kids' most favorite outdoor art activities is making a chalk mural. It's such a fun and tactile way to add color to your neighborhood. When I spied Yoobi's new chalk supplies, I knew they'd be perfect for our first mural of the season. Check out how you can make your own!
Yoobi chalk supplies used:
- Washable Sidewalk Chalk
- Washable Spray Sidewalk Paint
- Jumbo Chalk Stencils
- Jumbo Chalk Paint Roller
- Jumbo Chalk Paint Pens
To get started, clear your work area of any leaves, sticks, etc. Brainstorm a bit about your mural -- what do you want to design? My daughter took one look at Yoobi's supplies and said she wanted to make a "NEON CITY!" (You can see she loves her neons).
If you're going to use stencils, I suggest starting your mural with those. We set out her design and used the spray paint, rollers, pens, and regular chalk to fill them in. It worked best when we used the pens or regular chalk to trace the outline with the stencil, then removed the stencil to fill in the rest of the design.
Then work outward to fill up more space!
Once your base design has dried, go back and add details and accents. My daughter added in architectural details to the buildings, fireworks to the sky, and finally a title for her mural.
Don't forget to enjoy getting messy and take a well-deserved rest at the end!
